To experience pure windpower in an old subterranean wine cellar
Normally in a vault cellar 5 meters underground it may be completely windless – about the history of wind energy one can still find out a lot here. The factory building of the winegrower´s co-operative Prellenkirchen was turned into an information center about wind energy with an interactive thematic exhibition because of the surrounding wind park. The existing building was enveloped by a sheet as image carrier about wind, whereas inside a soft contemplative entrance hall is preparing the visitor on the way to the informative exhibition in the cellar.
The 33-metre-long, 7-meter-wide vault cellar can be experienced also in it´s temporary use as a showroom, as one huge space. The patina of the brick masonry indicates the atmospheric tone. The structural parts of the exhibition are keeping distance, not seeking for a point of contact to the former use. A concentric placed ramp in the middle of the cellar empathically produces a room-in-room situation, ready any time for dismounting and move. One point infringed against the laws of the Hades: in deep cellars there is no immediate relation to the outside, but in the Windinfocenter Prellenkirchen one can have a look via 4 periscopes outside to near wind power stations. Inspecting, if the wind blows.
