How an intimate sun terrace illuminates the house
The owners didn´t want to miss the opportunity to a dwelling house. What they also didn´t want to miss was the usual privacy of the topfloor apartment with an invisible terrace they are inhabiting. – the first requirement. The site with front garden on the south side and the consequential garden on the north side was the second challenge, since sun illumination was to solve.
A courtyard, completely sheltered from wind and sights, spacious and completely naturally illuminated became the principal item of the building. This space on the upper floor is assigned to the private areas like bedroom, bath and cloakroom and enables full intimacy. Through a lateral glazing the sunlight falls in the north sided living room on the ground floor. A room height of 4.5 meters generates the climax of the inner spatial sequence.
The magisterial obligation persist on keeping the front garden visible to the street. Due to vertical fins with a height of 2 meters, the sight from the street is in a way directed that you never look at the glazings of the house on the ground floor but parts of the wall, plantings and the lawn. By the impression from outside of a green planted garden, the intimacy of this area is preserved.
